6/28/11 21:20 We're not perfect. Any of us. We make mistakes, we screw up but then we forgive and move forward. |
Here are the trials and tribulations of farming, running an Agribusiness, and raising a family in Eastern Georgia.

Another good one.
@DamnRightTweets: I can't promise things will be solve now at this moment, but I can promise that I'm with you and so is God, we will go through it.

Todays thought of the day from me
There are things in life we just won't ever understand. That's the way it is. We just have to deal with and move on.

My exact philosophy
| This quote is how I look at a lot of things in life. I always have....first time I have every heard anyone else share the same thought! I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end – Drew Barrymore |

Sunday morning thoughts
It is amazing how now that we don't open on Saturday's and I have Saturday's at home and at the farm....how much more I feel like I am home more. Just being home those 4 hours on Saturday morning has made a huge difference.
Yesterdays fire at the pond was a interesting. We got about 300 ft of hose down there though and got it hooked to the water line we had run last summer to the pond and out the fire out unassisted before it got on the neighbors land.
Another welcome to the ridge moment. If it can happen .....it will happen to us!
Just finished cooking breakfast....boys are playing the Wii and Sadie and Haynes doing their best to drive them crazy! Oh paybacks.....
Enjoy this Sunday...
More to come....

@LiterallyYes: In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have & the decisions we waited too long to make.

William'isms
Our 8 year old William is fast becoming known for his hysterical but sometimes annoying quotes/utterances. Unfortunately I am afraid he gets his "call it like I see it, tell it like it is" attitude from me and I hope it mellows....it is good people know where you stand and people know what you are thinking, but sometimes it really upsets people and makes them mad....I know....trust me
Yesterday we disciplined Josh over something so trivial I dont even remember what it was. He declared he was running away and struck out walking down the driveway.
When he was about 50 yards from the house.....we heard William yell:
"It would be a lot easier if you would ride your bike instead of walking!"
Not worried about Josh being serious or about him running away.....just pointing out the "way he saw it"
Nancy and I are still laughing about it!
I love my kids....

Fathers day
All the kids brought me a card this morning. Even Haynes walked in with some help with one!
I am so blessed with 4 wonderful yet crazy children and a wonderful wife.
Life truly isnt cut and dried or black and white. It isnt like the "book" we think it should follow when we are young. It is a give and a take, an ebb and a flow, it is grey. It can be tough, hard to understand, and yet rewarding and bless us all in the same moment in time.
We only get one trip around....so thankful to be on the trip with my 4 and Nancy.....and wonderful friends....

Little Life Lesson
My mother in law sent me this in an email...it is too good not to share....this is so true about life...so thankful for all who have helped me in life.....
"A JOURNEY CALLED LIFE"
A mouse looked through the crack in the wall
to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
"What food might this contain?", the mouse wondered.
He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard,
the mouse proclaimed this warning :
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The chicken clucked and scratched,
raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse,
I can tell this is a grave concern to you,
but it is of no consequence to me.
I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him,
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The pig sympathized, but said,
"I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse,
but there is nothing I can do about it
but pray..
Be assured you are in my prayers."
The mouse turned to the cow and said,
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"
The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you,
but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house,
head down and dejected,
to face the farmer's mousetrap
. . . Alone.. .. .
That very night
a sound was heard throughout the house
-- the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.
In the darkness, she did not see it.
It was a venomous snake
whose tail was caught in the trap.
The snake bit the farmer's wife.
The farmer rushed her to the hospital.
When she returned home she still had a fever.
Everyone knows you treat a fever
with fresh chicken soup.
So the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard
for the soup's main ingredient:
But his wife's sickness continued.
Friends and neighbors
came to sit with her
around the clock.
To feed them,
the farmer butchered the pig.
But, alas,
the farmer's wife did not get well...
She died.
So many people came for her funeral
that the farmer had the cow slaughtered
to provide enough meat for all of them
for the funeral luncheon.
And the mouse looked upon it all
from his crack in the wall
with great sadness.
So, the next time you hear
someone is facing a problem
and you think it doesn't concern you,
remember ---
When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.
We are all involved in this journey called life.
We must keep an eye out for one another
and make an extra effort
to encourage one another.
YOU MAY WANT TO SEND THIS
TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER
HELPED YOU OUT...
AND LET THEM KNOW
HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE.
Rain - Precious Commodity
I swear a tenth of rain feels as precious as an ounce of gold or bushel of corn as things are now....we just had less than a tenth of an inch of rain.....but it was sooo nice...first rain in 4 weeks.....and that makes about 4 tenths now in 8 weeks.....every little but counts and every little bit is a blessing from the Good Lord.....it is amazing how tied to this earth we are....when rain doesnt come people get pissy and upset easily, depression and anxiety increases even in non Ag people....our connection to earth and its cycles is awesome.

Results of a drought
This Blogs Purpose
I have always wanted to write. Mama always said I could write well, never believed it. But I have always had the urge to write about life. Twitter and Facebook and now this are my outlet. I hope to write a book from this one day.
For some reason writing down experiences good and bad has always been good for me. In college I wrote them down on paper, then in microsoft word, now I use Twitter and Facebook as an outlet. I have always been accused of wearing my emotions on my sleeve and being an open book and emotional, I can't help it....I am....no apologies.....I am emotional and show it openly....thats the way it is.
This Blog is about the trials, successes, failures, and escapades of running a small agribusiness, a cattle farm, a cattle processing service, and raising a family. I hope one day to turn it into a book.
It is dedicated to my family, friends, and the most dedicated group of employees anyone could have. My only regret is not having started it earlier. I will try to share some of the crazy stories from the past 2 years as we go along. The blog got its name form a saying me and my employees have and use everytime another unbelievable or wacky event happened..."Welcome to the 'Ridge"
Thanks for reading
